poems written under the influence of life: a public journal

02/14/2006> Long time no post

I appologize for the immense amount of time since I last updated this site. Computer troubles and life difficulties have prevented me from getting to here. I hope that these twelve meager suggestions which are now three or more months old, in some way make up for the passage of such a large span of time. There are at least this many poems unfinished in my notebook. I hope to bring them forth soon.

12/27/2005> New Year

Sorry all that it has been so very long since I have posted. The computer at my house has long been on the fritz. I am at Jeff Judge’s House today with Alan and Ellison and it is a beautiful late Decemer day. We saw an old (possibly drunk) old man mowing his lawn on the way over here. At any rate, I just received a hand-me-down computer and hope to be back online again soon. All is well enough with me and I hope the same for all of you.

08/26/2005> Against

I’ve been working this for a few days. I am not quite sure that it is finished and though I know that I like this, I am not positive what I think of it. Seems close enough to finished to show.
Against the Clouds

08/13/2005> Bug

This is something that I wrote today. I am quite proud of it. Sometimes you can just feel that you are onto something while you are writing it. I just tried to follow this one where it was going.

The Same Tear, Misc.

Another one for the Misc Section, my roommate Christian and I wrote another song. We were watching the news and talked about a particular story of a mother who has been standing outside of where President Bush is vacationing for more than a week. She just wants to talk to him. Christian started the song with the first lines and we completed it together. Maybe it needs a chorus still.

Johnny Somebody, Hometown Hero

08/12/2005> Vacation

Jen and I returned late last night from visiting her grandparents in Arkansas. The state is just as I remember it: beauitful, slowly being tamed, free yet, but judgemental, and decidedly, intentionally dull.
At any rate, we had a nice visit and it was good to get some distance and perspective. It has been many a year since I have vacationed.
We made stops at Pea Ridge, a Civil War battlefield; Meramac Caves, a hideout of Jesse James; and the Arch in St. Louis. But the best part was having uninterupted personal time with Jen, in the car and at the small, lake house of her grandparents, which they borrowed to us for a few days.
Here is a poem that slowly arose out of all of this:

A Place in the Mind, Spirit Poem

08/04/2005>

Here are two more, both for the Misc Section. I have been simultaneously writing them for a while. There are three more still in my notebook. It is yet to be seen what wil come of them.

Trading Day, for Night
The Sun Suddenly

07/28/2005> 7-28-5

Now that I am finished with Massage Therapy School, I obviously have more time. More than that, my mind space is clearer and I feel the words coming more. Not only that, but I am making more effort to write them down and work them. So here then, is the next installment:

07/23/2005> Song 7-23-05

This is a song that my roomate and I spontaneously composed. I like that it is a combination of song and poem that allows itself to play by the rules of both mediums. The specifics are still being worked out, but here are the words.

Love Ladder

07/07/2005> Misc 7-7-5

Dream Discovered
Interchangeable

06/24/2005> Light at the end of the tunnel 6-24-5

In fourteen days, I have the final final at Massage Therapy School. It will be comprehensive over all of the last fifteen months of classes. In a few months, I can take the National Certification Exam. Then I hope to get part time work at a Wellness Center.
Also, in the meantime, my nephew, Campbell Thomas Kim, was born May 14. He was a few weeks early and weighed only 5Lbs 10Oz. A month later, he weighs more than 1oLbs. He is a hairy cutie.
As you can see, it has been a while since I posted. I hope the lapse in time is made up for with the quality of the poems.
